How to Search Clarke County Civil Dockets
The Clarke County Clerk of Superior and State Courts holds the official civil filings. They cover both courts. The office still posts a legacy Case Search entry on its site. For online access, turn to the Georgia Courts E-Access directory. It lists Clarke County State and Clarke County Superior under PeachCourt.
Know the court before you search. Have a case number or a party name ready. The legacy Clerk form does not promise date filters, attorney fields, or wildcards. It also offers no fixed result order. When a result comes back empty, check the court you searched first. Confirm you picked the right one before concluding the civil docket does not exist.
- Identify whether the matter belongs to Clarke County Superior, State, Magistrate, or Probate Court.
- Open the Clarke County Clerk route or choose Clarke County State or Clarke County Superior in the E-Access directory.
- At PeachCourt, select Clarke County and the court, then search by case number or party name.
- Open the case docket and compare its parties, filings, motions, events, and settings.
- Ask the proper clerk for a plain or certified copy when the docket view is not enough.
PeachCourt and the Clarke Civil Search Route
Georgia's E-File table makes PeachCourt mandatory. Filings in Clarke County State and Clarke County Superior go through it. E-Access runs on accounts. It is not a free anonymous index covering every Clarke County court. The official PeachCourt search description lays out the useful civil route. Pick the county and court. Enter a case number or party name, and open the case docket.
That route does not replace the Clerk. Viewing a document image or taking a filing action may carry a provider charge. Official copies and certification stay with the Clerk. If the legacy Case Search link loops, check State versus Superior. Check spelling, filing year, and court type too. Then call or visit the Clerk. Do not guess at a search field you cannot confirm.
| Search control | What the official route supports |
|---|---|
| County | Choose Clarke County before opening the provider route. |
| Court | Select Clarke County State or Clarke County Superior. |
| Search key | Use a case number or party name; wildcard behavior is not confirmed. |
| Result action | Open the case docket; document access can be separate. |
What a Civil Docket Shows
A Clarke County civil docket is an event log, not the whole file. Entries may show the court, the case number, and the parties or case style. The filing or opening date may appear too. Status, motions, orders, settings, and the disposition round out the log. Clarke County Superior and State case numbers can carry different prefixes or type strings. No single universal Clarke civil number format applies.
| Clarke County case number | The court-assigned identifier used to link filings, settings, and requests. Read the header rather than inferring a date from a prefix. |
|---|---|
| Clarke County parties and style | The plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent, or formal case caption. |
| Filing history | Chronological filings, pleadings, motions, orders, and other docket events. |
| Settings | A civil jury, non-jury, motion, status, or other court event placed on the calendar. |
| Status and disposition | Case progress or a closing action. A calendar appearance alone is not a final judgment. |
| Documents | Links or references to filed items when the provider makes images available; a docket view may not include every document. |
Read the events in date order. A reset can leave an older setting sitting in the history. And a posted calendar only shows a planned event, never proof that the case was disposed.
When Clarke's Civil Document Center Falls Short
The Clarke County public Civil Document Center offers Start Date, Start Time, End Date, and End Time filters. Folders of posted documents sit alongside them. It is not a searchable civil case register. A filtered list can help you spot a calendar file. Still, an empty result proves nothing. It does not show that a Clarke County case or hearing is absent.
The official Clarke County civil calendar Document Center shows the date and time filters applied to posted files.
Treat the Clarke County document center as a calendar-file index. Confirm any case-level setting through the Clerk, PeachCourt, or the court that owns the docket. The gap matters most with timing. A Clarke County civil PDF may predate a later order or reset.Note: The civil Document Center is a posting and filtering route. It is no substitute for the Clerk's case register.
Clarke County Civil Case Types
Clarke County routes civil matters by subject and jurisdiction. Divorce, title, equity, family-law matters, and major civil actions belong in Superior Court. State Court takes the general civil cases not reserved to Superior alone.
| Court | Civil case types and docket slice | Record custodian |
|---|---|---|
| Clarke County Superior | Divorce, domestic relations, title to land, equity, family matters, and major civil actions. | Clarke County Clerk of Superior and State Courts |
| Clarke County State | General civil actions not reserved to Superior, plus civil motions and jury or non-jury trials. | Clarke County Clerk of Superior and State Courts |
| Clarke County Magistrate | Small civil claims, dispossessories, garnishments, abandoned vehicles, and personal-property foreclosure. The current claims line is $15,000. | Clarke County Magistrate Court records office |
| Clarke County Probate | Estates, guardianships, trust-related and other statutory civil filings. | Clarke County Probate Court records office |
Clarke County Probate is its own custodian. It is not a second route into Superior civil cases. The Magistrate limit in Clarke County stands at $15,000. HB999 raises it to $25,000, but that change waits until Jan. 1, 2027. Do not apply the future threshold to a current search.
Clarke's Civil Court Split
Several Clarke County courts share the same Washington Street courthouse address while keeping separate dockets and records. The right counter depends on the court named in the filing, summons, judgment, or case search result.
| Need | Start with | What it does not replace |
|---|---|---|
| Clarke County Superior or State civil action | Clerk, legacy Case Search, or PeachCourt | Magistrate, Probate, Juvenile, or Municipal records |
| Clarke County small claim, dispossessory, or garnishment | Magistrate Court search or records request | Final State or Superior disposition when the case moved |
| Clarke County estate or guardianship matter | Probate Court Case Search or counter | A Superior or State civil register |
When a Clarke County Magistrate matter is not resolved there, the records form sends the requester to the Superior or State Clerk for the later misdemeanor or felony disposition. A Clarke County Probate result carries its own scope and completeness limits. The Probate Clerk stays the controlling source.
Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets
A Clarke County civil setting takes many forms. It might be a motion hearing, a non-jury trial, a jury trial, a status event, or another scheduling entry. Clarke County State Court publishes its civil motion, jury, and non-jury activity. Superior calendars run through judge and category routes. Remember that a setting is one planned event, not the full civil history.
For confirming dates, start with the Clarke County court calendar route. Then compare the newest calendar against the case docket or a clerk confirmation. The latest signed order or docket event wins. An older PDF, search snippet, or payment receipt gives way.
Western Judicial Circuit Term Calendars
Two counties share one circuit. Clarke County and Oconee County form the Western Judicial Circuit. Its term calendar lays out the week or date, the judge, the county, the courtroom, and which civil cases sit in a jury or non-jury group. Think of it as a schedule of trial terms, not a case file.
The PDF will not answer case-level questions. It never tracks a single Clarke County civil action. For a current setting, the Clarke County Superior Court calendar index and the Clerk's judge or category files work better. A late order or a reset can move a hearing. Confirm the case-specific date with the Clerk.
- Civil jury trial
- A civil setting assigned for a jury to hear the evidence.
- Civil non-jury trial
- A bench trial in which the judge hears and decides the matter.
- Term calendar
- A circuit-level schedule that does not guarantee a particular case is ready for trial.
Note: A term calendar gives you the circuit's schedule. The case docket for a Clarke County civil action gives you its event history.
Clarke Civil Filing Fees and Forms
Filing a civil case in Clarke County costs money up front. The Clerk's fee schedule lists three charges. A Superior or State civil filing and partnership fee costs $218.00. Sheriff's service runs $50, and dispossessory service $25. Paying those charges buys the filing, though. It does not make a portal search or a document image free.
For paperwork, the Clarke County Clerk forms hub is the place to look. It carries civil and domestic-initiation forms. Local orders, subpoenas, indigency material, and parenting plans sit there too. So do child-support addenda, adoption and divorce forms, and trade-name or UCC routes. Remember what a form is not. It is not proof that the Clerk accepted, docketed, or disposed of a case.

Bring specifics when you call about a Clarke County filing. Know the court, the case type, and the form you need. The Clerk's office prices routine copies, certified copies, and document services differently, so ask which charge applies before sending payment.
Public Access to Clarke County Civil Dockets
Georgia leans toward public inspection, but exemptions, sealing orders, and redaction rules still control particular records. Clarke County court-specific rules matter here. A public case shell, a filed document, and a certified copy can each carry a different access path.
Key Rules:
O.C.G.A. § 50-18-70 states Georgia's policy favoring access to public records, subject to statutory exemptions.
O.C.G.A. § 50-18-71 governs inspection and copying; the custodian should respond within three business days or explain the need for more time and provide an estimate when applicable.
Uniform Superior Court Rule 21 treats court records as generally public unless law or court procedure limits access. Rules 21.1 through 21.6 address restriction orders, review, duration, and protected-identifier redaction.
Address a request to the Clarke County court office that actually holds the record. An ACCGov Open Records request for a Clarke County civil record will not open a sealed court file. Public access does not grant permission to republish protected identifiers pulled from a civil PDF.
Narrow Clarke Civil Copy Requests
A narrow request gets a faster answer. When a Clarke County case is missing online or a document must serve as an official record, name the court, the case number, the date range, the document type, and the format. Mail the Clerk at P.O. Box 1805, Athens, GA 30603. Confirm payment instructions first. The Superior and State office does not take personal checks.
The Clarke County Magistrate records request route shows the level of detail a lower-court search rewards: the party name as filed, the civil case number, the filing date, the subject, a return address, and a telephone number. Its certified-copy form lists $4.00 per document or $14.00 for an entire file, plus a self-addressed stamped envelope.
The official Clarke County Magistrate records request page shows why a lower-court request needs the case type and identifying fields. That route is entirely separate from the Clarke County Superior and State Clerk.
Superior and State copy pricing runs by the page. An unassisted copy is listed at $0.50 per page. An assisted or mailed copy runs $1.00. A certified copy costs $2.50 for the first page plus $0.50 for each additional page. A seal or signature line costs $2.00. For a large request, confirm the unit wording. State exactly what you need: a plain docket view, a filed document, and a certified copy are different products.
Note: The Clerk publishes no current certified-copy turnaround. The Magistrate form's typical search timing does not transfer to Superior or State.
