Search the Clarke County Court Docket

A calendar list is not a complete case file or a certified copy, and Clarke County searches go wrong most often by treating one as the other. Superior and State matters use the county Clerk's records path in Athens, Georgia; Magistrate, Probate, Juvenile, and municipal matters have separate keepers and access routes; a federal division serves the area too. Start with the court on the notice. Case numbers, filings, settings, and outcomes appear through the right court, and a current date gets confirmed with the clerk when a Clarke County court docket search through a portal or file does not show the full record.

Clarke County Docket Map

Clarke County runs as a unified Athens government. Its courts stay separate. Superior Court, part of the Western Judicial Circuit, handles general-jurisdiction trial work. State Court takes limited civil and criminal matters. Magistrate, Probate, Juvenile, and Municipal Courts each keep their own records. Clarke and Oconee counties form the circuit, yet their local records never merge. Federal cases belong to the Middle District of Georgia Athens Division and PACER. Appeals go to the Eleventh Circuit. The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government site is the civic starting point for local court services.

One downtown address can hide four different worlds. A traffic case, an estate file, a city citation, and a Superior felony may all live there, yet separate clerks and portals control access to each.

What a Clarke County Court Docket Shows

Think of a docket as a chronological event list for one case. It can show the case number, caption, and parties. Filings, settings, attorneys, bond fields, status, and disposition may also appear. But it only records what the court or clerk entered. It is not every paper in the file. State criminal calendar samples add offense date, count, classification, counsel, and bond details. Two cautions matter here. A calendar appearance is not a certified register. An opened or pending status is not a finding of guilt or liability.

Case NumberState criminal calendars can use STYYCR####-JUDGE: State Court, year, criminal family, sequence, and judge or division. It is not universal.
Parties and CaptionThe case style identifies the parties or State caption. Match court and case type before relying on a name.
Docket Entries and FilingsChronological events show filings, orders, motions, and other actions released by that court.
Hearing SettingsA setting may show date, time, courtroom, judge, type, and sequence. The newest order controls a moved date.
Court and JudgeThe court name separates Superior, State, lower, municipal, and federal records. A judge can identify a calendar route.
Status and DispositionStatus describes a case position. Disposition is an outcome and should not be inferred from payment or a dated calendar.

Probate states it plainly: the official record wins. If an image is missing online, the cause could be account access, a fee, a sealed item, a lower-court boundary, or a portal gap.

PeachCourt for Clarke County Dockets

PeachCourt is where Clarke County dockets actually live for State and Superior Court. Georgia Courts E-Access works as a routing layer. Its Clarke entries send you to PeachCourt for both courts. The e-file table marks PeachCourt as mandatory there. One catch: an account is required, so this is not a free, anonymous statewide index.

Search options inside PeachCourt include County, Court, Case Number or Party Name. There is also a case docket view. Pulling a document image may cost an account or vendor charge. A certified copy is still a Clerk product, not PeachCourt's. The Georgia Courts e-file table shows the official assignment. It names PeachCourt as the mandatory Clarke State and Superior provider.

Clarke County court docket e-file route and PeachCourt assignment

The assignment names one provider, yet PeachCourt stops at the courthouse door. It does not cover Magistrate, Probate, Juvenile, municipal, or federal cases. The PeachCourt access and registration page handles the account step, but the county Clerk keeps the official Superior and State files.

Keep two questions apart: the account and the document. A case result can display docket events even when the next step is a paid image or a Clerk copy request.

Which Clarke County Courts Keep Dockets

Every court is its own record keeper. The Superior and State Clerk holds actions filed in those two courts, while separate clerks maintain Magistrate, Probate, Juvenile, and Municipal files. Federal Athens cases run through PACER and CM/ECF. Start with the court named on the citation, notice, calendar, or case document. A felony preliminary matter may be lower-court work, even though the felony trial docket belongs in Superior. Traffic can land in State or municipal court.

Clarke County Docket Search Fallbacks

Sometimes a search route simply fails. The Clerk's legacy Case Search link may redirect. It may also return a missing-page response, so treat any error page with caution. A failed page never proves a Clarke case does not exist. Try Georgia Courts E-Access next, and verify the court, year, spelling, and court type. Still nothing? Call the custodian. The Clerk's legacy Case Search entry is one starting link, not the only channel. For Superior and State cases, use Room 450, call 706-613-3190, or mail a confirmed request to P.O. Box 1805, Athens, GA 30603. Magistrate offers lobby and mail routes, Probate and the city courts use their own counters and phones, and federal cases move to PACER.

Finding Clarke County Court Dates and Settings

A court date can surface in several places: a docket event, a calendar PDF, a citation, a summons, or a court notice. State and Superior pages publish judge and category links rather than one countywide party search. For a reset or continuance, the latest docket event or signed order controls. Read the court and case number first. Then check the newest matching PDF for judge, type, date, time, courtroom, and item number. Compare it with the docket or clerk. Athens Municipal and Winterville run separate city routes.

Use the Clarke County court calendar page for settings detail. Date authority runs: signed order or latest docket event → clerk confirmation → newest PDF → older PDF or payment receipt.

Clarke County Calendar PDFs

State Court calendars cover arraignment, civil, criminal status, calendar-call, and jury materials, with routes for Judges Auslander and Hope. Superior calendars list civil non-jury, criminal trial, status, arraignment, term, and jury settings for Judges Stephens, Lott, Haggard, and Norris. Remember the divide. State is the limited-jurisdiction layer; Superior is general jurisdiction. Labels like Case Status, Calendar Call, Civil Non-Jury Trial, and Term Calendar describe a setting list. That is not a final result.

When a hearing is close, missing, or shifted by weather, go straight to the clerk or court office. Legal notices can override an older calendar instruction.

Clarke County Magistrate Records

Magistrate records in Clarke County split by technology. Traffic files run from December 31, 1960 through June 30, 1985. Anything criminal before November 4, 1992 sits in handwritten docket books. A computerized docket covers later filings. Files dated 1992 or older cannot be copied, except for the docket books themselves.

One caution belongs here. An online result is not a complete history search. The official form describes a lobby terminal and a mail route. It asks for party name, civil case or warrant number, filing or arrest date, charge, address, and phone. A certified document costs $4, or $14 buys the entire file.

Handwritten docket book
The pre-November 4, 1992 criminal record form identified in Magistrate materials.
Computerized docket
The post-break system for newer case-status access, subject to court coverage and copy rules.
Public lobby terminal
A Magistrate access route, not proof of a Superior or State terminal.
Certified entire file
The $14 Magistrate form option, separate from one certified document.

Check the date and the court first. A modern Clarke County docket search cannot turn a handwritten book into a full indexed history.

Public Access to Clarke County Dockets

Georgia leans toward access. Still, the custodian, the record type, and legal limits control what a court docket request actually returns. Send any court-file request straight to the clerk that holds the file. An ACCGov request will not bypass a sealed or juvenile record.

Spell out the court, case number, date range, document type, and format you need. The Attorney General guide says the initial response should arrive within three business days, or else explain the delay and give an estimate, and copy and search charges may apply.

Key access rules:

O.C.G.A. § 50-18-70 favors public access, subject to exemptions.

O.C.G.A. § 50-18-71 governs inspection, copying, and request response.

Uniform Superior Court Rule 21 makes court records generally public unless limited by law or procedure.

Rules 21.1 through 21.6 cover limits, review, and redaction.

Restricted results take three forms. You may see a limited shell, a redacted event, or no image at all. Juvenile, sealed, family-violence, Probate, military-discharge, and identifier records each require the court-specific rule.

Clarke County Probate Docket Scope

Probate runs its own clerk and its own online route. Marriage-license coverage starts in 1934. Estate coverage starts in 2005. That scope does not put every filing, image, or older case online. So read the completeness notice on the official Probate online records route. The counter sits in Suite 200 at the courthouse, phone 706-613-3320. A Probate result is not a Superior civil result.

Probate scope: Marriage licenses reach back to 1934, estates begin with the 2005 online scope, and the view is not comprehensive. The official record controls.

When the online Probate entry looks incomplete or restricted, ask Probate directly for an official copy. Wills, estates, guardianships, licenses, and mental-health matters all qualify.

The Clarke County Clerk and Docket Records

Elisa Zarate serves as Clerk of Superior and State Courts. Her office keeps the official civil and criminal actions filed in those courts. That covers Superior felony and civil matters, plus State misdemeanor and general-civil filings. Lower-court clerks stay separate. Each holds its own court records.

The official Clerk of Superior and State Courts page shows the public records counter. It also lists the current payment routes.

Clarke County Municipal Docket Workload

ACCGov calls Athens-Clarke County Municipal Court the county's busiest court. It hears approximately 35,000 cases each year. That docket is broad. It covers county ordinances, State misdemeanor traffic including DUI, selected misdemeanors, and domestic partnerships. A payment page is not a complete county case index, though. Find the court in Suite 170 or call 706-613-3690. Case questions go to the court or clerk. Eligible fines run through the linked nCourt service, and current rules say to allow ten business days from citation before payment is available. Your appearance still depends on the notice.

≈35,000 Athens-Clarke Municipal Court cases each year

Keep the issuing court in view. Athens Municipal is not State Court, Winterville, or Bogart's unresolved contract route, and paying a fine never shows the full docket or a certified disposition. The Athens-Clarke Municipal Court information identifies jurisdiction and the local contact route.

Clarke County Courthouse to Judicial Center

Athens-Clarke's courthouse opened for business in 1914. It still houses Superior, State, Magistrate, Municipal, Juvenile, and Probate functions. An annex came in 1989, and the historic building was renovated in 1990. One address holds many separate counters.

A move is coming. On June 2, 2026, ACCGov approved a Judicial Center site at 120 W. Dougherty Street. The site spans 218,215 square feet. The estimated cost is $225 million. The plan puts lower-floor Clerk and Municipal operations below Superior and State floors, along with Juvenile and Treatment space, jury assembly, and secure parking. Construction is tentatively early 2028, with completion late 2029 or early 2030.

The Judicial Center project information describes a future move, not a completed one, so current requests still belong with the existing court, clerk, suite, or city hall. The county courthouse is also separate from the federal courthouse at 115 East Hancock Avenue. Those are two doors. PACER access and federal device rules do not replace county Clerk access.

Court Dockets by City in Clarke County

Official Clarke materials name three incorporated areas: Athens-Clarke County/Athens, Winterville, and Bogart. Population figures from 2020 add context only. They grant no court authority. Municipal cases stay with the city route unless procedure moves them to a county court.

Always use the issuing court printed on a citation. Athens offers a county payment and clerk route, Winterville uses City Hall, and Bogart's charter creates a Municipal Court while the service plan says it contracts with Oconee County. Verify Bogart with City Hall.

2020 population: 1,326

Bogart City Hall, 125 Main Street; 770-725-7386. Verify whether the current route is Bogart or Oconee County.

Compare those numbers with care. Athens-Clarke's consolidated figure differs from an Athens balance figure, and only part of Bogart lies within Clarke County. County Superior, State, Magistrate, Probate, and Juvenile records each stay with their own custodians.

Map and Directions to the Athens-Clarke County Courthouse

Superior and State Court records are kept in Room 450 and Suite 425 of the Athens-Clarke County Courthouse, 325 East Washington Street, which also houses Magistrate, Municipal, Juvenile, and Probate Court in their own suites. The 1914 building has a public Washington Street entrance and a second entrance between the courthouse and the parking deck; the deck elevator reaches all levels, and Probate on the second floor is accessible from the deck's second level.

ACCGov's Court Services page says weapons-screening systems protect the courthouse, and Magistrate's lobby has public-access terminals as an in-person fallback when the online portal is unavailable. The county has approved a future Judicial Center at 120 W. Dougherty Street, but current requests still belong at this Washington Street courthouse until that move happens.
